3 Perfectly Paleo Smoothie Recipes

This guest blog post comes from Julie Ross via The Healthy Home Cook.  Enjoy!

Let's be honest, it can be hard to get your daily requirement for fruits and vegetables. Our lives can get hectic from time to time.  Lucky for you, I have three perfectly Paleo smoothies that are creamy and sweet, without dairy or refined sugar. With these homemade smoothies you can be sure to have a healthy serving of fruits and vegetables, without the added calories of ones you would find at a local smoothie shop.

Check out these 3 Paleo smoothie recipes, yummy!

If you haven't heard of the Paleo diet by now, it's safe to say you are living under a rock.  (No pun intended, since the Paleo diet is based on the foods presumed to be consumed by cavemen.)  Millions of people live by the guide lines of this diet or "lifestyle" and swear by their results.  It remains to be one of the top ten diets in America.

I, personally, do not strictly follow a Paleo diet, but love to dabble with Paleo recipes here and there.  I basically live a Paleo lifestyle, already.  I do not consume dairy or grains and try to stay away from as much processed foods as possible.

Whether or not you care about the Paleo diet, these smoothies are delicious and satisfying.  Each one is nutritionally dense and a great way to start your day or recover after a grueling workout.

It is hard for me not to make a smoothie at least a few times a week.  They are simple to make and perfect for my busy schedule, especially on days when I am racing out the door or just not in the mood to cook.

Packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and protein, smoothies are a great meal replacement.  But, if not made correctly, they can include tremendous amounts of sugar and calories.  All too often smoothie shops will include sugary syrups and fatty yogurts in their smoothies resulting in a gut-busting dessert, instead of a healthy meal or snack.

My tip is to stick with coconut milk (or any dairy free milk), adding more vegetables than fruit, and limiting the addition of sweeteners.  Without noticing, you will be decreasing carbohydrates and sugar, while boosting the nutrition in your daily smoothie.

Below you will find my three perfectly Paleo smoothies.  There is a recipe for everyone.

If you are in the mood for a creamy, minty blast, then my Shamrock Shake is perfect. More of a fruity person?  Then my Blackberry Detox Smoothie is just the one for you.  Definitely don't miss out on my Green Mango Smoothie.  It is a tasty, healthy recipe that helps with digestion and is also naturally anti-inflammatory.

Thanks for the prompt response my lovely bro! And yes, I’m not into supplements really, but do struggle getting in my daily need for protein, as I’m not a big omnivore…(although I have been called a man-eater once or twice- does that count?!) Will read the articles you posted ASAP. Cheers, you awesome fearless leader, you!!!

Yo G! Glad you’re digging ‘em. Go heavy on the fat where you can. Should be fine with protein powder, I’ve always found way more enjoyment in “real food” post run/workout, but these are great when you’re in a hurry. Have you read any of Peter Defty or Barry Murray’s stuff on that yet? Cheers, Nik@PT

Hey Nik! Loving these smoothie recipes- I’m going to go for it and add a scoop of unflavored clean protein powder to them, for some pre or post training recovery! Hoping it won’t change up the awesome flavors. Whatchu think?!?
