Episode 52: Nik Hawks
Do you ever wonder what those solo people in the car next to you are doing when you see them looking straight ahead at traffic but gesturing, yelling, and laughing like they're surrounded by six best friends?
I’ve been driving around lately listening to all my usual podcasts and going off on my quests down various seams of curiosity and thought I’d share some of my convos with myself, with you.
Yep, I'm one of those inside-the-window yellers. I listen to podcasts, open up to inspiration, and spend a fair amount of time just noodling around inside this 40 year old brainbox to see what new connections might look like.
I thought I'd share some of those monologues with you, although this isn't totally stream of conscious talking. What I usually do when I'm driving and have a good idea is to record it. Later, I'll open up my little recorder app and listen to some of the ideas I've had that week.
For years I did nothing with 'em; just listened. Lately though, I've been thinking about sharing 'em, so here they are! From the "book-leverage" principle to the "men need danger" idea that comes up every time I see one of my Navy buddies, to the caution for most people against becoming an entrepreneur, here are a few of my most recent ideas I thought might be useful for you.
This is the first solo-cast I’ve done, let me know if you’d like to hear more or if you’d rather get back to the interviews with another person.
In this episode I’ll talk about the following ideas:
- dare to be great
- power of reading books and leveraging experience/knowledge/time equation
- men need danger, excitement, community
- not everyone should be an entrepreneur
- better to be curious and listen when you want to accomplish a joint task
- why you should judge for yourself what’s “worth listening to”, and why a Navy SEAL (or anyone) may not be worth listening to, the effect of hazard on importance of message, see “men need danger” above
- brain intensity training, just like physical intensity training. Idea sparked by the interview with Henry Mahncke on the Neuronfire podcast with Dr. David Bach. Intensity in general.
