VIP - Vacuum Insulated Panels

12" cube, 7 days in transit, 54F on arrival.

That should be enough to get you interested in Vacuum Insulated Panels, or VIPs.  Typically, only pharmaceutical companies use VIPs; they need their product to stay at ultra low temperatures and they have the margin to ship an expensive liner set overnight.

VIPs work by creating a vacuum inside each panel which basically stops heat transfer (don't yell at me heat engineers, I know it doesn't "stop" it.)

This means you can send a box via Ground transport because the interior of the box stays cold much longer than standard insulation.  Longer ship times allow you to take advantage of the significantly lower rates for shipping Ground vs 2 Day.

What's the downside?

  • expensive ($40-80 per set)
  • can be delicate (these ones are pretty tough so far)
  • tight fit; you won't be making 100 boxes an hour

How do you mitigate that?

We'll buy as many as we can at a time to get a high volume run, work with other local businesses to combine orders, re-use these multiple times, and educate our customer about why this is so important for all of us to do:  Cheaper shipping, easier on the planet, and arriving in better/colder condition.

We're working with the VIP company that manufactures these boxes to develop a food-focused product that is both super tough and within reach financially for even small food businesses.

In the video I forgot to mention an important factor; these are pretty heavy.  An empty 12" cube box will weigh almost 7 ½ lbs.  That doesn't add a ton to the cost if you're shipping Ground, but is definitely worth knowing.

We are PSYCHED to help you learn how to ship your perishable product across the country.  A consultation with us can save you years of experimenting and thousands of dollars.  Reach out via our Contact form to learn more.
