So we put a graphic up on Facebook that generated more interest than we've seen in a long time. All we did was ask the question, "Is Paleo more expensive?"
I put in a few hours of research, finding recipes and meal plans on various sites, all of which are legit Paleo, and then I built an excel file using pricing from Vons/Safeway (a grocery chain) online to compare the two types of meals. We never actually said Paleo was more expensive, but it turns out that Paleo in this example runs about $7 more per day.
I figured that lots of people who don't eat Paleo use meds, so I found the online cost for medications for the usual complaints(asthma/allergy/IBS meds plus an energy drink or two) and plugged those in.
It still came out with Paleo more expensive but I figured that's about right and it was just an interesting graphic.
Holy smokes did we see some upset people!
Everything from "This is stupid" to "This is Neolithic, not Paleo" and "how the fuck is chicken salad Paleo" to "My BIG issue with this is the BLAME you're placing...like anyone who has asthma can get rid of it with diet change. Like its [sic] their fault."
Rather than answering any of those, we just let the graphic ride. It's important that people do their own research, and figure out for themselves if chicken salad can possibly be made Paleo, or if those foods are really Neolithic and poisionous, or if you are to blame for your eating habits affecting your health, or whether or not Paleo is "stupid."
At the end of the day, Paleo is way more than a diet, and the people who we like interacting with the most about it have done their homework, have implemented changes based on their research, and are for the most part, happier and healthier for having gone Paleo.
What do you think about this?
